Jeannette man accused of shoplifting at Greensburg Shop 'n Save
A Jeannette man is charged with stealing deli items from a Greensburg supermarket Wednesday and struggling with store security.
Steve Simile, 32, was arraigned Thursday afternoon on charges of robbery, theft and disorderly conduct, stemming from the incident at the Shop ‘n Save store on East Pittsburgh Street. He was placed in the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post $50,000 bond.
A store security official told city police he spotted Simile wearing a winter coat in the store, even though it was 70 degrees outside, according to court records.
Simile allegedly ordered about $13 worth meat and cheese from the deli, then wandered the aisles, hiding the deli items in his coat one at a time, the security official told police.
Simile tried to leave the store and was stopped outside by the store detective, who asked for the items back.
The store detective grabbed Simile by the coat. Simile allegedly wrestled his way out of the coat and fled in a red Honda SUV.
Simile is additionally charged with possessing drug paraphernalia. Security found a spoon and needle inside his coat, court records said.
Simile faces a May 2 preliminary hearing before Greensburg District Judge Chris Flanigan.
State police in February charged Simile with two counts of retail theft for alleged thefts from Walmart in Hempfield.
