Greensburg Night Market opens for the season with new, returning vendors
Organizer Jessica Hickey is expecting a crowd Thursday for the season-opening Greensburg Night Market.
The weather forecast is good and people are eager to get out, said the founder of the Downtown Greensburg Project, which hosts the event.
About 45 vendors will set up from 5:30 to 9 p.m. along South Pennsylvania Avenue in the block between the Westmoreland County Courthouse and the courthouse annex. Shoppers will find a mix of popular, returning vendors and those new to the market.
“We try to bring in new vendors every year to mix it up,” Hickey said. “We’re always looking for new vendors with unique and different products that attract new visitors.”
One of the new sellers is Grizzled Teddy Co. of Indiana, Indiana County, that will be offering a signature organic, small-batch beard oil, brown sandalwood beard combs and some brand apparel.
While the company is known for its grooming products, it is branching out “to help groom men emotionally, mentally and physically,” according to co-founder/CEO Donovan Daniel. “We want to help men be more passionate about grooming their heart, mind and beard.”
At the Night Market, the company will take orders for its Father’s Week T-shirt, which they’ll observe June 14-20 “to expand the time we honor super, amazing fathers and father figures for more than just one day,” Daniel said.
The slogan on the shirt reads, “Passing lessons, life and love to the next generation.”
Another new vendor is Mystic Mixtures Potion Bar, which offers cocktail mixes handmade with simple ingredients that can be mixed with spirits or with water for a nonalcoholic beverage.
“They’re a good fit, because we always have a lot of alcohol vendors,” Hickey said.
Reading Soda Works of Reading also will be a first-time attendee, with old-fashioned glass bottles of soda in retro-style flavors such as sarsaparilla; root, birch and ginger beers; cream sodas and more.
“Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department also will be there with fire department swag,” Hickey said.
The first 500 attendees will receive a free tote bag, courtesy of market sponsors.
“We have a lot of new sponsors this year, and not just for the night market but for our events throughout the year,” Hickey said. “A lot of the downtown merchants and restaurants will be open, so people can check them out, too.
“We’re happy for the support from all the local businesses and organizations.”
The night market will follow current CDC guidelines for any necessary mask-wearing and social distancing, Hickey said.
