A judge told a 31-year-old Greensburg man who pleaded guilty Monday to sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl last year that he didn’t want to hear any excuses for the crime.

“Judge, I was hallucinating for three days. I was taking methamphetamine and crack cocaine … I didn’t know what I was doing,” Franklin A. Oblak told Judge Christopher Feliciani after pleading guilty to multiple counts of assaulting the girl in June 2018.

In response, Feliciani told Oblak that he had “many reservations” about accepting the plea agreement, which includes 4-8 years in prison and seven years of probation.

“What kind of person, knowing they are going to be caring for a young girl during a weekend, goes out right before taking methamphetamine and crack cocaine? It sounds to me like you’re not wanting to take any responsibility,” Feliciani scolded Oblak.

“Your honor, I am accepting responsibility,” Oblak replied.

Assistant District Attorney Judith Petrush said the family of the victim agreed to the plea deal in order to spare the girl from having to testify.

“Reading the complaint from Greensburg Police makes me embarrassed. I can’t imagine what an 8-year-old child would feel like having to come in here and testify before jurors about this so I can understand the family’s concerns about putting her through more trauma,” Feliciani said.

If convicted of all five counts, Oblak could have received as much as 80 years in prison.

During an interview with Detective Charles Irvin, the girl said that Oblak told her “to keep it a secret.”

Oblak is prohibited from contacting the victim. He will have to register as a Megan’s Law offender.
