Greensburg man ordered to jail after 3rd drug arrest in 13 months

A third arrest for delivery and possession of a controlled substance in just over a year resulted in a Greensburg man being ordered held in the Westmoreland County Prison without bond this week.

When acting District Judge Charles Conway saw on a state police complaint filed Monday that Malcolm Massay, 35, has been arrested three times in 13 months, including Sunday, for possessing and distribution of a controlled substance for allegedly possessing more than an ounce of cocaine, Conway declined to set bond.

Conway ruled the safety of the community was at risk with Massey’s potential release in light of the multiple arrests, according to court dockets.

In the most recent case, Massey was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle that was pulled over at 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Route 30 eastbound near Wendel Road in Hempfield, according to Trooper Glenn Adams. Adams reported that during a consensual search Massey possessed more than one ounce of suspected cocaine.

On Jan. 1o, 2018, Adams had stopped Massay near the same section of Route 30 as he drove a 2018 Nissan Altima. The trooper allegedly discovered him in possession of two ounces of cocaine, digital scales and driving on a suspended license. Last March 28, Greensburg police arrested Massay for possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and blocking an alley.

He was free on $60,000 bail awaiting trial in common pleas court on the 2018 complaints.

Conway scheduled Massey’s hearing on the most recent complaint Feb. 28 before Jeannette District Judge Joseph DeMarchis.
