A mobile home along Fox Hill Street in Greensburg was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.

A Greensburg man who was burned early Wednesday in a fire that destroyed his mobile home was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, the city fire chief said.

Greensburg Fire Chief Tom Bell said the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after receiving the alarm at 12:38 a.m. to the 400 block of Fox Hill Street. The chief said he could see the smoke and flames from his home in the city when he left for the fire.

The man wasn’t identified. He was the only person in the mobile home, Bell said.

Greensburg Police Sgt. Henry Fontana Jr., the city’s fire investigator, is investigating the cause of the blaze, Bell said.

Two explosions were heard as a result of the fire, which was reported by a neighbor, Bell said. The chief said there was no indication of an explosion of a propane tank, which often is a heating source in mobile homes.

The chief estimated the loss from the fire at $30,000-$40,000.

Greensburg firefighters were assisted by the Southwest Greensburg fire department. Bell said they were on the scene until about 3 a.m.
