Greensburg Garden Center will offer two ways for supporters to enjoy its annual spring tea on March 20.
A “Tea-In” option includes a sit-down meal at Maplewood Presbyterian Church, while a “Tea-Out” option will allow people to pick up a box featuring the same meal to enjoy at home.
“We felt like we could have the (sit-down) event and do it safely, but either way, it’s all going to be super-special,” said center co-president Carla Rusnica.
Doors will open at 11 a.m., with tea to be served at noon in the church at Woodland Road, Hempfield. Tea boxes can be picked up curbside at the church from 11 a.m. until noon.
Attendance at the in-person event will be limited. Groups of up to eight who attend together can be seated at one table, while those attending singly or in smaller groups will be seated with no more than four per table.
Attendees will be required to wear masks until seated at their tables.
A basket raffle and music are planned.
“For those who are tired of being in the house and want to get out, this is a way to socialize a little bit in a covid-friendly environment,” said co-president Diane Dale.
Instead of having the usual buffet meal, diners will be served individually and have their own teapots, Rusnica said.
The menu will include:
• Fruit salad
• Fresh blueberry or vanilla scones, served with lemon curd
• Selection of tea sandwiches, including cucumber, turkey cranberry, ham apricot and mini chicken salad croissants
• Four types of cookies and a chocolate-dipped apricot.
Along with the food, the “Tea-Out” package will hold tea bags and a vintage teacup. Either option is $30.
Proceeds will benefit the center’s annual scholarship, its butterfly garden behind the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, workshops and other educational programming.
Tea reservations are available until March 11, or until sold, out by calling 724-837-0245 or emailing ggc951@live.com.
