Greensburg Community Development Corp. looking for new leader

Ashley Kertes, who served almost four years as executive director of the Greensburg Community Development Corp., is stepping down.

Kertes announced her resignation Tuesday after accepting the position of associate administrator to the superintendent and community outreach with the Greensburg Salem School District. Kertes’ last day with GCDC is Friday, although she plans to stay on to help the organization through the transition process.

“Through working with our board of directors and community leaders, I’m proud of all we’ve accomplished at GCDC that has aided in the growth and revitalization of the city of Greensburg over the past four years,” Kertes said in a statement. “I’m confident that GCDC’s strong board of directors will ensure that the organization continues to grow and thrive and positively impact the Greensburg community for years to come.”

Kertes was first appointed in 2018 to lead the nonprofit organization, which works closely with city government to promote commercial development. She replaced former director Steve Gifford, who left the organization for a new job in March 2017 after 12 years.

During her time in that role, Kertes headed the creation of several initiatives including the Covid-19 Relief Main Street Jump-Start Program, which aimed to help small businesses in the city struggling because of the pandemic; Greensburg Restaurant Week; and the Hometown Hero Banner project and Hometown Hero Celebration.

According to Kertes, the jump-start program — her proudest accomplishment — helped 25 businesses.

“It not only helped them bounce back from covid, but it helped them sustain their business for the future,” Kertes said.

Ashley is the wife of Westmoreland County Commissioner Sean Kertes.

GCDC officials are searching for an interim leader while a search for a permanent executive director is underway. The interim director will be responsible for activities such as grant writing and administration, bookkeeping, event planning, and meeting with businesses and developers.

If a candidate is successful in the role, they may be considered for the full-time position.

Officials expect the interim position to be filled through the end of August.
