Greater Latrobe School Board inks 3-year contract with support employees
Greater Latrobe School Board and the union representing 67 of its support employees agreed on a three-year contract extension.
The agreement, which the board ratified this week, is retroactive to July 1 and continues through June 30, 2024.
According to a joint release by the district and the union, the school board approved the contract “with the hope of ensuring labor stability.”
The contract provides annual hourly wage increases ranging from 40 cents to 45 cents for employees at the top tier of the pay scale.
The affected employees will continue to make contributions toward the cost of their health care plan. They can select from five plans offered by the Westmoreland County Public School Healthcare Consortium.
The agreement applies to 31 custodians, 30 food service workers and six maintenance employees who are represented by Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ. It follows a previous three-year contract.
Raises OK’d for part-time secretaries, subs
At its September voting session, the Greater Latrobe board also approved hourly raises ranging from about 2% to nearly 12% for part-time and substitute classified workers.
Part-time secretaries will be paid $11.60 per hour in the 2021-22 school year, up from $11.35 per hour the previous year. Substitute classroom assistants will receive $10.50 per hour, up from $9.50.
Substitute secretaries and custodians will see a pay hike to $10, up from $9.25. Hourly pay was set at $9.50 for student workers and substitute personal care assistants and food service employees, up from $8.50.
Any former classified employee who is retired from the district and is willing to substitute in a similar position will be paid the wage they received before retirement, up to $15 per hour.
Assistant AD pay approved
Greater Latrobe approved a two-year benefit and pay plan for Assistant Athletic Director Tyler Gustafson, who was appointed to the position effective Aug. 25. His initial salary was set at $40,000, with a minimum annual raise of 2.5%, provided he receives a satisfactory evaluation.
