Greater Latrobe School District is looking to fill a newly created position in the central administration office.

The school board this week approved creation of the role of curriculum and software services assistant, the latest move in a realignment of staff and shifting of workloads in the central office.

In August, when Michael Porembka was promoted from director of teaching and learning to assistant superintendent, some of his curriculum and professional development responsibilities were assumed by Robin Pynos, the district’s director of technology, curriculum and instruction.

“She’s been out in the buildings, working with teachers, doing professional development, attending curriculum meetings and workforce development meetings,” said Superintendent Georgia Teppert.

Teppert said the new staff member will provide support for Pynos and will help to manage the technology that has become a growing part of the educational process.

The job’s duties will include helping to manage instructional, administrative and operational software systems and helping to manage network security functions.

Teppert hopes to have the position filled by the beginning of next year.

The reshuffling of staff was triggered by Judith Siwgart’s July 31 retirement as superintendent. The board’s first move was to fill that top post by promoting Teppert, the former assistant superintendent.

Business administrator Dan Watson said the district anticipates a “substantial,” recurring savings from the central staff realignment.
