Good Samaritan helps troopers ID suspected meth users in New Alexandria

A Good Samaritan who expressed concern over the safety of Route 22 motorists telephoned state troopers Wednesday to report two men parked outside a Sheetz store in New Alexandria who were allegedly using drugs.

Troopers subsequently arrested Travis D. Teets, 35, and Adam J. Dewitt, 34, both of Preston, W.Va., at the scene on numerous drug-related charges including illegal possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Teets also is charged with receiving stolen property and troopers impounded the 2002 Pontiac Bonneville he was driving after learning from West Virginia authorities that it was reported stolen.

Trooper Shauntai Hall of the Kiski station said the caller told dispatchers he wanted to stay at the scene until troopers arrived so he could point out the suspects.

“The complaintant mentioned that he could see the men clearly (ingesting drugs) because his truck was parked beside their vehicle during the drug activity. The complaintant said he was afraid the operator of the vehicle (Teets) would drive away impaired/under the influence of narcotics,” Hall wrote in court documents filed with Derry District Judge Mark Bilik.

When Hall made contact with the suspects, she said both appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substances with their eyes “extremely bloodshot and pupils dilated.”

She said Dewitt admitted taking Suboxone. During a consent search, Hall drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine.

The men were arraigned Thursday before Bilik. Teets was ordered held in the county prison after failing to post $25,000 bond, and Dewitt was jailed after failing to post $10,000 bond. Preliminary hearings are Feb. 5.
