A 30-year-old man at Torrance State Hospital in Derry Township for a court-ordered mental health evaluation was arraigned on charges of sexually assaulting a nurse there.

William Thornhill of Glassport is accused of assaulting the nurse in the Greizman Building as she was taking temperatures of other patients at the hospital at 9:36 p.m. Oct. 30.

Thornhill was charged May 24 by Glassport Police with escape and making false reports, according to court records. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing in Allegheny County on Nov. 24. He was arraigned Nov. 5 for charges of aggravated assault, harassment, indecent assault and simple assault filed by state police.

Other staff members at the hospital assisted the nurse after she was assaulted, police said.

Thornhill was remanded to the Allegheny County Jail on $10,000 bond, according to court dockets.
