The former Family Video store in Greensburg could be home to a GetGo fuel station and convenience store if plans are approved.

According to Jeff Raykes, city planning director, proposed plans would entail tearing down the structure at 531 S. Main St. and building the new gas station.

“There’s no final approval, but they have presented their plans and the planning commission is currently working with the developer to close on the required submittals of the project,” Raykes said, noting the planning commission approved the project with six conditions, including stormwater management and obtaining a highway occupancy permit from PennDOT.

Rug Phatak, chief of staff and senior director of marking at GetGo, said in a statement, “GetGo is growing and constantly evaluating new location opportunities in our core markets. New stores are announced as plans are finalized.”

Proposed changes to the lot come months after the parent company of Family Video announced a nationwide shuttering of all their stores, including the Greensburg location. At the time, officials with the parent company, Highland Ventures, attributed the decision to decreased foot traffic and a lack of new movie releases caused by the covid-19 pandemic.

The Greensburg location, prior to being a video store, was a supermarket.

Minutes from the May planning commission meeting suggest the GetGo could include a 5,520-square-foot convenience store and gas pump station featuring 12 fuel pumps. Raykes noted the convenience store will likely include groceries.

Online records show the land is still owned by Family Video Movie Club Inc.

Site plans will likely go before city council next month.
