Free electronics collection slated for Saturday in Rostraver
The Belle Vernon Area Rotary is accepting unwanted electronics this weekend as part of their community electronics collection event.
Starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, televisions, computers, monitors, printers, keyboards and consumer electronics such as stereos, microwaves, VCR and DVD players and Christmas lights can be dropped off at the Brunswick Zone Belle Vernon Lanes parking lot, 4742 Route 51, Rostraver.
The event is free, but donations will be accepted for the rotary club.
Big’s Sanitation, Brunswick Zone Belle Vernon Lanes and Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling will help with the event.
A similar project was hosted last year at Chess Park in Monongahela, but officials said it got out of hand when people started to illegally dump televisions, computer monitors, old tires and other items.
Piles of items were spread throughout the park, which officials eventually taped off, posting a sign that read “No more dumping.” The trash pile grew so high that it obscured a World War II memorial.
A cleanup from the event took two days.
