Three Fort Allen Elementary School teachers had the chance to kiss Chuck Norris — the goat.
Students and teachers on Jan. 31 raised more than $900 for Relay for Life of Greensburg through their Kiss a Goat for a Cause fundraiser paired with the annual pie-a-teacher in the face event, according to Mindy Vickers, third grade teacher at the Hempfield school and organizer of the event. The fundraiser was hosted by the Relay for Life team The Fort Allen Fighters.

Wanting to add a new aspect to the annual pie-a-teacher event, Vickers said she came across the idea for a Kiss a Pig fundraiser. Knowing that second grade teacher Susan Nelson had a family farm, Vickers reached out and found a “very kissable goat,” she said.
For $1 students voted on a ballot made up of 12 teachers. The top three teachers — including principal John Behrendt who took first place, Mark Muchoney and Vickers who tied for second and Shannon Lippa who took third — from that list were announced during an assembly and had to kiss Chuck Norris the goat on stage.
Prior to that, 18 teachers volunteered to take a pie to the face. For 25 cents each, students vied for three open spots per teacher to participate in the event.

Other Relay for Life teams were started by Hempfield schools, including Wendover Walks, which raised a little more than $3,530 so far, and Stanwood Stampede, which raised more than $1,030, according to the Relay for Life website.
About $29,600 has been raised by all participating teams for Relay for Life of Greensburg, which is slated for its June 6 event at Hempfield Area High School. Funds go toward cancer research and patient care programs.
