Firefighters battle a fire at a home on Louise Street in Loyalhanna on Sunday.

Six fire departments worked to put out a blaze that caused significant damage to a Loyalhanna Township home Sunday morning.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the single-story home on Louise Street around 7:35 a.m., said Bill McClelland, assistant fire chief for Saltsburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Slickville fire officials arrived first at the scene and identified a working fire stemming from a utility room in the center of the home, McClelland said.

“The bulk of the fire was knocked down immediately,” McClelland said. “We just have some fire hidden in spots in the attic area.”

Dave Cindric, who lives next door, said a woman living in the home had not been there for a few months. Family members have occasionally stopped by to check on the residence, he said.

Cindric’s cousin, who also lives on the street, noticed the fire and reported it. This is the third fire on the property in about 40 years, Cindric said.

McClelland estimated the fire would be cleared by around 11 a.m. Delmont, Sardis, Tunnelton and Bell fire crews assisted at the scene. LifeState EMS also responded.
