An expired liquor license in St. Clair Township, Westmoreland County, is among 25 in as many counties that are up for grabs in a March state auction.

Sealed bids for the expired restaurant licenses are due to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board by noon March 25. The bids will be opened March 28, and winners will be determined soon thereafter.

It’s the eighth such auction the PLCB has conducted since August 2016. Previous auctions resulted in winning bids for 235 licenses, generating $24.1 million in revenue — with another $4.9 million remaining in escrow, pending license approvals.

Information on the most recent licensee to hold the St. Clair license wasn’t available, according to a PLCB spokesman.

The minimum bid for each license is $25,000, accompanied by a bid surety of $5,000 or 5 percent of the total bid amount, whichever is higher.

The highest responsive bidder for each license will win the right to submit an application for the license to the PLCB within six months of the auction award. If the bid payment is not received within two weeks of the award, the second-highest bidder will have the opportunity to apply for the license.
