Excela Health eliminates 15 jobs
Officials at Excela Health said they eliminated 15 positions at its three hospitals this week as part of a fiscal year-end assessment that scrutinized workplace efficiency and duplication of resources.
“The result is a modest change in staffing in non-clinical areas,” Excela spokeswoman Robin Jennings said.
The health system, which consists of Westmoreland, Latrobe and Frick hospitals and associated facilities, employed 4,661 people, Jennings added.
The job cuts came days after Excela officials said the health system, which has posted operating losses for the last two years, is poised to turn a profit in the 2020 fiscal year.
Excela remains the largest private employer in Westmoreland County.
Jennings said some of those affected by the realignment are taking early retirement and others were referred to existing openings at Excela “to determine if another opportunity among those positions that may be of interest to them.”
Excela, which has 192 openings for registered nurses, medical assistants, environmental service technicians, culinary specialists and direct care staff, will hold a job fair July 13 at the Ramada Greensburg Hotel & Conference Center in Hempfield, Jennings said.
