Police: Driver bites Greensburg police officer during traffic stop involving reportedly stolen SUV

A traffic stop in Greensburg on Sunday involving a reportedly stolen vehicle ended up with officers scuffling with the driver, who is accused of biting a patrolman, according to court papers.

Cody Storm Vaughan, 29, of Sarver, Butler County, was pulled over at 10:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sheetz convenience store on Harvey Avenue after police saw him driving a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser that had been reported stolen from a Speedway station along Route 22 in Salem.

Officer Kenneth Burke said during the traffic stop,“Vaughan began screaming at patrolman Chase Mollomo and then approached him in an aggressive manner.”

As Mollomo and other officers attempted to subdue Vaughan, Burke reported “he bit my left wrist” and resisted arrest. Officers restrained Vaughan in handcuffs and put him in the back seat of a patrol car. When he was taken to the police station for questioning, Vaughan again threatened to fight officers “as soon as the car door was opened,” according to court documents.

In June 2017, Vaughan was arrested by Saxonburg police for abusing his ex-girlfriend’s 20-month infant. According to online court records, Vaughan pleaded guilty to child endangerment for assaulting and biting the girl he was babysitting.

Court dockets said he was sentenced to serve up to 18 months in county prison, plus two years probation. His probation in Butler County expired in August, according to court dockets.

In Sunday’s incident, Vaughan is charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, disorderly conduct and driving on a suspended license. He also was arrested by city police a week ago for violating a protection from abuse order.

Vaughan was arraigned Monday and ordered to the Westmoreland County Prison on $25,000 bail.
