Faith Forward Ministries is seeking volunteers and donated items to help it carry out its Random Gifts of Kindness holiday project.
The Latrobe-based nonprofit human services organization intends to spread holiday cheer by handing out donated presents to random recipients on Dec. 17 in the Latrobe and Greensburg areas. The gifting event is an effort in addition to assistance the group provides to local families in need.
“It’s really about giving back to our community,” said Dawn Hennessey, the organization’s executive director. “We want to randomly bless people. Everybody deserves to feel special this holiday season. It’s probably one of the coolest things we’ve done.”
Faith Forward handed out close to 500 gifts during a similar effort in 2017, Hennessey said.
Depending on the donations received, volunteers may give items such as scented candles to adults, individual toys to children and board games to families.
“We take the day and give cookies at different businesses,” Hennessey added.
Volunteers are needed to help distribute gifts from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 17, when hot chocolate and cookies will be served in front of the Faith Forward office at 338 Main St., Latrobe.
In addition to candles and toys, Hennessey suggests donations of gloves, hats, socks, scarves, Christmas treats and boxes of candy — or money.
Donations are being accepted at the Faith Forward office. For more information, call 724-539-7900.
