Cupid's Chase 5K set for Latrobe, benefits area adults with disabilities

Participants will have their hearts into running a 5K race set for Saturday in Latrobe.

The annual Cupid’s Chase will kick off at 10 a.m. at Memorial Stadium, raising funds for Community Options, a nonprofit that provides support and services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Westmoreland and Indiana counties.

“We’re very excited to have a warm-weather day for the race,” said Stephen Hall, executive director of the Westmoreland region of Community Options. “It’s supposed to be 50-plus degrees that day.

“It should be a great day for a run. Usually, temperatures are below freezing for this event.”

Check-in begins at 8 a.m., near the stadium concession stand. Advance registration is available online by visiting runsignup.com and searching for “Cupid’s Chase Latrobe.”

The fee is $45 for runners, walkers or those with baby strollers or wheelchairs, $15 for canine companions through the end of the day Friday. While supplies last, human participants will receive an event T-shirt and dogs will get a bib.

The race course for the donor-supported event follows Jefferson, Oak and Ligonier streets to the city’s North Side before returning to the stadium.

The event will be timed, with awards given to the top finisher in each of 13 age groups and the top three overall male and female finishers.

A raffle for prizes will follow the event for all registered participants, said Hall.

“This is something extra we do to help show our support to our runners and walkers,” he said. “A lot of our regulars have signed up. We have some very devoted runners.”

Proceeds will benefit 28 clients who are served in the Community Options’ Westmoreland region and 14 in the Indiana County region.
