Remnants of a Derry Township mobile home caught fire Tuesday as a crew worked to demolish it.

Owner George Nuttall, who lives next to the property on Chestnut Ridge Road near Route 217, said workers took a break from cutting part of the trailer’s metal frame before the fire started around 2 p.m. He speculated the procedure may have started a fire to smolder in the home’s wooden platform below.

Firefighters from Bradenville, Youngstown, Lloydsville and Latrobe responded and extinguished the fire in about an hour, Bradenville Assistant Fire Chief Nick Piantine said.

Nuttall said he bought the lot at a sheriff’s sale and was working to tear down three remaining mobile home platforms of six that stood on the property.
