Coroner: Mt. Pleasant man killed after rear-ending a truck in East Huntingdon
A Mt. Pleastant Township man died Tuesday when his car rear-ended a tractor-trailer in East Huntingdon.
The crash occurred as Lawrence L. Savage, 46, was driving on Route 31, near Old Route 119, before 2:30 p.m., according to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office.
Savage failed to slow down for an unknown reason, and his Jaguar S-Type car struck the rear of the rig, according to a preliminary coroner’s report. He was alone in the car.
The air bags deployed, but Savage was not wearing a seat belt, the report noted. State police said he may have been suffering some kind of an emergency at the time of the crash.
Savage was taken to Excela Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputy Coroner Steven M. Grabiak and state police are investigating the wreck. Troopers said the driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt.
A ruling on the cause and manner of the death are pending an autopsy, to be performed by Dr. Cyril H. Wecht and Pathology Associates, and toxicology results, which are not expected to be available for several weeks.
Funeral arrangements and other details weren’t immediately available.
