Cops: Southwest Greensburg man accused in stabbing

A Southwest Greensburg man was arraigned this week on charges of aggravated and simple assault for allegedly stabbing a man earlier this year.

Jason M. Walters, 37, spent Thursday night in the county prison, but was released Friday after posting $100,000 obtained from a bail bondsman.

Police were called to an alley behind 600 South Main Street the night of March 13 for a report of a man suffering a stab wound to his upper right chest and several facial contusions.

One witness who lives nearby told police that he “saw Walters put the victim in a headlock and appear to punch the victim who was sitting in the front passenger seat of Walters’ white Jeep SUV” that was parked in the alley, according to court papers.

Southwest Greensburg Police Sgt. Todd Brant reported that he was unable to speak to the alleged victim, who was flown UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with multiple injuries.

Brant and County Detective Randall Gardner interviewed Walters, “who admitted” he punched the man numerous times in the face as he was sitting in the vehicle and “nicking” him with a knife. A female witness told police that she saw Walters hit the man multiple times.

The man told police that he suffered a fractured nose and had multiple sutures to close a stab wound in his chest.

Hempfield District Judge Tony Bompiani scheduled a preliminary hearing for June 16.
