Avonmore man accused of killing bulls with crossbow cited for damaging apartment

A man accused of shooting four bulls with a crossbow on a Loyalhanna Township farm during St. Patrick’s Day weekend was cited for causing a disturbance inside an Avonmore apartment house where he lives, state police said.

Shaun D. Ross, 60, was cited Thursday for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct in connection with a 3:40 a.m. April 20 incident in the 500 block of Westmoreland Avenue.

According to citations filed by Trooper Chad Howell, Ross “did run around screaming, activating fire alarms and also broke several doors.”

Howell reported that Ross caused more than $300 in damage.

Neither Ross nor public defender John Hauser could be reached for comment.

Ross has a preliminary hearing July 7 on unrelated charges of agricultural vandalism, ecoterrorism, aggravated cruelty to animals, criminal mischief, corruption of minors, criminal trespass and furnishing liquor to minors in connection with shooting four bulls.

The shooting occurred between 10 p.m. March 16 and 8 a.m. March 17.

State police said the injuries were so severe to two bulls that they were euthanized. Two other injured bulls still are recuperating, police said.

The deceased bulls were valued at $13,500, state police said.
