Jeannette man faces homicide charges in fatal Yukon crash last month
State police say a Jeannette man was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine when he crashed into a parked car in Yukon on March 4, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old Hempfield woman.
Trey L. Cue, 23, was arraigned Tuesday before East Huntingdon District Judge Charles Moore on multiple criminal charges, including two counts of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence in connection with the crash that killed Sarah E. McDonald, 25, who was a passenger in the vehicle Cue was driving.
State police say a blood test after the crash indicated Cue’s blood-alcohol level was 0.17%, or more than twice the legal limit considered to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Trooper Richard Nagy said the tests also showed Cue had cocaine in his system at the time of the crash.
Nagy said police were summoned to the 100 block of Highway Street in the village of Yukon, South Huntingdon Township, at 1:53 a.m. to investigate a crash into a parked car on the one-way street.
When police arrived, Nagy said, officers found Cue’s girlfriend, Abigal M. Bromwell, wandering around the scene of the crash “covered in blood.”
Bromwell told officers she, Cue and McDonald had just pulled away from the Creekside Saloon on March Street, Yukon, “to head home when the crash occurred.”
She told investigators Cue, who was driving, fled on foot after the crash.
McDonald, who was in the rear seat of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Westmoreland County Coroner’s office. She died of multiple blunt force injuries to her head and abdomen, police said.
Nagy said police found Cue, dressed in an all-white jump suit, shortly after the crash “laying on the ground near a brush pile of wood in an effort to conceal his person.”
“I hurt that girl,” Nagy quoted Cue as telling officers as he was taken into custody.
Nagy said Cue told officers he drank two beers at home and then had three beers and two shots at the Creek Side Saloon. He said Cue agreed to have his blood tested.
At the time of the crash, Nagy alleged in court documents Cue was driving 69 to 74 miles per hour in a residential area posted for 25 miles per hour. Cue’s license had been suspended for a previous DUI conviction, Nagy said.
Cue was ordered held in the county prison after failing to post $100,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing on April 24. He also faces charges of homicide by vehicle, reckless endangerment, driving on a suspended license, failing to report an accident, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and reckless driving.
