Jeannette man charged with assaulting woman
A Jeannette man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and holding her against her will a few days earlier in East Huntingdon.
Corey J. Rubright, 25, was pulled over for vehicle violations, including driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance, early Sunday by Jeannette police and detained on an arrest warrant for the alleged Oct. 30 assault that was reported to state police in Belle Vernon.
Rubright was arraigned by night court District Judge Charles R. Conway of Export on charges of false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, simple assault and harassment.
He was freed on $75,000 unsecured bond pending a Dec. 4 preliminary hearing. Rubright could not be reached for comment and an attorney was not listed for him in court documents.
State Trooper Jeffrey Callihan said police were called Thursday to Rubright’s residence in the 700 block of Stella Street, where they met the woman who claimed Rubright assaulted her during an argument. Police said the woman called friends after Rubright left the house.
The woman told troopers Rubright took her to his apartment in Jeannette instead of dropping her off at her East Huntingdon apartment.
Callihan said the woman reported that Rubright initially picked her up in his car at the Walmart store in East Huntingdon “and demanded to see her telephone.”
Complaints filed before District Judge Charles Moore said the victim told Callihan that, when she refused to give Rubright her phone, “Rubright punched her in the face with a closed fist …. and refused to drop her off at her apartment.”
“(The victim said) Rubright would not stop his vehicle, stating that he knew he was going to jail … and continued traveling to his residence against (the woman’s will),” Callihan wrote in court documents.
Callihan said the woman’s arms were bruised and the right side of her face was swollen.
