Cops: Greensburg man accused of endangerment after 10-year-old fires loaded shotgun

A Greensburg man who left a loaded shotgun in a corner of his bedroom where it was picked up and accidentally fired by a 10-year-old boy earlier this month is charged by city police with endangering the welfare of children.

Robert D. Stevens, 33, was charged this week with District Judge Chris Flanigan via mailed summons filed in connection with the April 12 incident that happened in Stevens’ Moreland Street home.

Patrolman Chase Mollomo said officers were called to the residence about 3:45 p.m. after the youth discovered the loaded, unsecured shotgun leaning in a corner of Stevens’ second-floor bedroom and accidentally fired it. Police said Stevens was downstairs when the gun was fired.

Mollomo said the shot went through a dresser and two walls before coming to a stop. No one was injured.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled June 13.
