Following a cleanup day that took place in June, a Greensburg-based development group is hosting a community day this weekend at the parklet on South Pennsylvania Avenue.

Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the event hosted by City Cribs will feature food from McFeeley’s Ice Cream Truck, Baldy’s Pizza and Henry’s Hoagies, acoustic music by Chris Daugherty and face painting.

“We couldn’t be happier to work with the city of Greensburg to affect much needed positive change, as well as partner with the Downtown Greensburg Project on beautification to the parklet,” said Suzanne Ward, co-owner of City Cribs. “There’s new restaurants, businesses and people moving into the city and we’re grateful to be a part of the progress.”

Volunteers in June cleaned up the park and South Pennsylvania Avenue by pulling weeds, planting perennials and clearing debris.

South Pennsylvania Avenue has been a center for growth over the past few years, with the additions of Wight Elephant Boutique and Invisible Man Brewing, which both opened in 2019. The Trendy Bunny baby boutique joined them last year.

In addition, the Greensburg Community Development Corp. in June was awarded a $23,400 grant from the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, which officials planned to use for a beautification project along the downtown Greensburg street. The project included hanging baskets, a mural and the addition of artistic elements to camouflage utility boxes.

City Cribs also is working to redevelop the street. The company owns several buildings, including the one housing Wight Elephant Boutique and The Trendy Bunny. The upper floor of the building was turned into apartments.

The company also recently purchased a former art supply store on South Pennsylvania Avenue with plans to renovate the building.

In addition to the events planned for the community day, a collection box will be placed at the parklet where people can donate supplies for the Greensburg Salem School District. The collection box is a partnership between City Cribs and Invisible Man Brewing.

Attendees will receive swag bags given out by RSVP Gifts and More that may include gift cards, coupons or advertisements for Greensburg-based businesses.

“We’re all locals banding together to help grow, unite and better the Greensburg community,” Ward said. “There is a lot of momentum and excitement right now.”
