Gianna Bowman, 8, of Hempfield, adds a rainbow design to Greensburg’s Lynch Park walking track during a Chalk The Walk activity on Saturday, June 25.

A beach scene, a rainbow, fish and a school bus were among images that added color to Greensburg’s Lynch Field walking track Saturday afternoon.

Sponsored by Greensburg Parks and Recreation, the activity encouraged park visitors to get creative with colored chalk and transform portions of the track into temporary works of art.

The event was meant to “spread joy, optimism and inspiration through the magical power of sidewalk chalk,” according to recreation officials.

Participants were encouraged to bring their own chalk, but large sticks were on hand just in case. Whatever sticks weren’t used up during the event were slated to brighten the recreation department’s summer camp program.
