A man was taken to a local hospital when a section of ceiling fell on him late Thursday in an apartment building on Lincoln Avenue in Derry Township.

Bradenville fire Chief Mark Piantine said a three-foot-square piece of ceiling fell down in a “freak accident,” striking the man in a second-floor bedroom. No other apartments were involved in the 11:48 p.m. incident in the 2100 block of Lincoln, he said.

The man, whose name wasn’t available, wasn’t trapped, despite initial reports, Piantine said. Firefighters helped emergency medical crews get him to an ambulance. He was taken to Latrobe Area Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters from Lloydsville also responded.
