Cardio drumming gets Claridge residents moving
In Claridge, you can jam out while you workout, thanks to new cardio drumming classes.
Drumsticks in hand, attendees of the twice-a-week class workout in Penn Township while drumming on yoga balls stabilized on a bucket.
“We’re trying to bring a healthy lifestyle to our community because we don’t see that much anymore,” said Rose Marie, co-founder of the classes.
Together with Marissa Sherrill, Roselyn Schmidt and Christina Osorlo, classes are taught Mondays at Colton Hall in Claridge and Thursdays at Level Green Elementary School.
The hour long classes are open to anyone, include children, Marie said.
Coming back from the Pocono Mountains for a business trip, Marie presented the idea to the three other women who are part of a local Herbalife Nutrition group, a global nutrition company. From there, the group self-taught routines and made up their own songs.
“It actually gets people out of their house, out of their winter depression,” Marie said.
Marie said they hope to grow the group, with about four members right now who never miss a class. In the future, they hope to establish a nutrition club in the community while growing cardio drumming.
Right now, classes run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees who need equipment pay $8 per person or $25 per family. Those who bring their own equipment pay $6 per person or $20 per family. Those interested can sign up online or email Sherrill through the Sign Up Genius website.
“We just want to be a healthier community,” Marie said. “That’s our main goal — to help people be healthy and happy.”
