State police released surveillance images on Monday of a person who they said installed a credit card skimmer/camera device on an ATM at a Hempfield convenience store.
Trooper Steve Limani said the person entered the GetGo convenience store on Route 30 at Lowry Avenue on Wednesday just before 4 p.m. and installed the devices on a Citizens Bank ATM. It was found the following day, according to a state police report.
Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity is asked to call state police in Greensburg at 724-832-3288.
A credit card skimmer can be difficult to spot. They are used by thieves to steal credit card information at legitimate retailers. The stolen data can be used to make fraudulent purchases or empty a bank account, according to the U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union.
Troopers also released on Monday a photograph of the device found at the Hempfield store. Consumers are encouraged to inspect ATMs and other machines that take credit cards to see if they’ve been tampered with, according to the credit union.
