A man was airlifted to a trauma center and at least three other motorists were taken by ambulance to an area hospital following a two-car crash Saturday morning in Derry Township, according to firefighters.
The collision occurred about 9:30 a.m. at Route 217 and Pizza Barn Road, shutting down traffic for about an hour on a section of Route 217 near the village of Brenizer.
Bradenville and Blairsville firefighters freed a man from one of the wrecked cars by cutting the roof and a passenger side door off, Bradenville fire Chief Mark Piantine said.
“We probably had him out in 15 minutes,” he said.
According to Piantine, other involved motorists included two children and a pregnant woman — who did not have to be extricated from the wreckage, he said, despite initial reports to the contrary.
Firefighters rerouted traffic and set up a helicopter landing zone at a ball field in Brenizer. Additional units responded from Derry and Black Lick fire departments.
Further details weren’t immediately available from state police, who are investigating.
