5 things to do in Westmoreland this weekend: Oct. 27-29
The last hurrahs of the fall festival and Halloween seasons welcome visitors this weekend. Bushy Run Battlefield in Penn Township tries out a new programming approach to replace its traditional hayrides, and local vendors gather for the Irwin Farm Market.
Bushy Run Duncan Campbell Haunting
As a replacement for the traditional Bushy Run haunted hayrides, visitors will walk through the battlefield museum and watch as ghosts return to tell the tragedies of their ends during the Haunting of Duncan Campbell. Two nights of performances will be offered at 1253 Route 993 in Penn Township on Friday and Saturday.
The Haunting of Duncan Campbell will feature three stories from the 18th century with actors playing out the scenes in front of guests.
Campbell will relive the moments when he gave a murderer sanctuary before finding out that the man had killed Campbell’s cousin and the frightful curse that his dead cousin’s ghost would lay upon him.
Enola Brown, a teacher on the frontier, will explain why the lessons scheduled for July 26, 1764, went unfinished.
It is said that the Conestoga wanted to live in peace among their neighbors, grow crops and trade woven goods. Two nights of violence would end that dream forever.
Timed tickets will be sold for $10 for events starting at 7 p.m. and then beginning every half-hour until 9:30 p.m.
