5 things to do in Westmoreland: Nov. 22-24
It’s that time again, the weekend is here and we’re all looking for something fun to do.
Options are more numerous than usual this time of year, as the holiday season quickly approaches.

Wreaths Across America — North Huntingdon will hold its second annual craft and vendor show 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the North Huntingdon VFW Post 781, 100 Billot Ave., Irwin.
Several dozen vendors/crafters are expected, along with a basket auction and food truck.
One hundred percent of the money raised will be used to purchase and place live evergreen wreaths on the graves of over 2,600 veterans buried in local cemeteries.

We love a parade
The sidewalks along Greenburg’s Main Street will be filled with spectators as the annual holiday parade makes its way through the city Nov. 23.
The parade kicks off at noon, and typically features numerous bands, organizations and floats.
Santa Claus usually makes his appearance as the parade finale.

Country Christmas lights up
Overly’s Country Christmas opens for the season at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 22.
The popular light display and holiday village returns to the Westmoreland Fairgrounds, 115 Blue Ribbon Lane, Mt. Pleasant Township.
Visitors can enjoy a drive-through tour of the lighted decorations, then park and stroll through the village, enjoying a bonfire, train or horse and wagon rides and shop for holiday gifts.
Cost is $20 per carload or $4 per person for walk-in visitors.
This year’s opening night will include the unveiling of Overly’s set of Wings Across Westmoreland.
Overly’s will remain open, weather permitting, most evenings until 9 p.m. during the week or 10 p.m. (Friday and Saturday), through Dec. 30. Check the schedule for planned holiday and week night closures.

Spreadin' the news
Recalling the days of the news boys sharing the latest on turn-of-the-century street corners, Disney’s “Newsies” will take the stage at The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg.
It is the rousing tale of charismatic newsboy Jack Kelly, who leads a band of teen-age newsies. When publishing titans raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly rallies them across New York City to strike against the unfair conditions.
The musical’s popular songs include “The World Will Know,” “Seize the Day” and “Once and For All.”
Stage Right has set performances for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22-23 and 2 p.m. Nov. 24. Tickets are $17 to $27.

Raising their voices
Music will be fill the air of the First United Methodist Church in Greensburg on Nov. 22, as the Joan Chambers Concert Series closes the fall semester with a holiday-themed concert.
The 7:30 p.m. performance at the church, 15 E. 2nd St., will feature Pittsburgh-based Kassia Ensemble and the Pitt-Greensburg Chorale.
Soprano Cynthia Ortiz, contralto Daphne Alderson, baritone Skip Napier and organist Matt Klumpp also will perform with the two groups. “First Noël: Music of Bach, Saint-Saëns, Handel” is free and open to the public.
The program will feature Saint- Saëns “Christmas Oratorio,” Bach’s “Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden,” Caroline Shaw’s “For Claire and Philip,” Jessica Meyer’s “but not until,” Andrea Clearfield’s “Three Songs (after poems by Neruda),” Cecile Chaminade’s “Scarf Dance,” Schulz-Widmar’s “Midnight Clear” and Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.”
