“The Art of GIFTing” holiday show and sale is Nov. 5- Dec. 21 at the Greensburg Art Center in Hempfield.

Holiday marketplace

The annual Holiday Market is planned for noon-4 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Ligonier Country Market, at West Main Street and Springer Road in Ligonier.

The market features holiday-themed items and other merchandise handcrafted by dozens of area vendors. Food and beverages will be available.

Artisan gifts

An opening reception for the annual Art of GIFTing holiday show and sale will be 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Greensburg Art Center, 230 Todd School Road, Hempfield.

The show features artworks suitable for gift-giving, including jewelry, ceramics, glass, textiles, paintings, mixed media and more made by regional artisans. It runs through Dec. 21.

Shoppers who make a purchase Saturday will receive a raffle ticket for a Christmas basket, with winning ticket to be pulled at 4 p.m. Tickets also are available on the center’s website.

Awesome owls

Visitors will be Owling at the Moon during an owl-themed program by that name, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Powdermill Nature Reserve, 1795 Route 381, Ligonier Township.

The family-friendly event will include a bonfire, crafts, owl pellet dissections and other activities. Staff members will even try to catch an owl.

Preregistration is requested but not required; fee is pay-what-you-wish. Attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Broadway brass

River City Brass performs its 2022-23 season-opening concert, titled “Les Mis N’at,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg.

The program features hit songs from popular Broadway musicals including “Les Miserables,” “West Side Story,” “Chicago,” “My Fair Lady” and “Carousel.”

Founded in 1981, the Pittsburgh-based ensemble presents 25 to 35 regional concerts annually at five Western Pennsylvania venues, with the mission of educating and entertaining audiences in American musical culture.

Industrial arts

“Industrial History and Arts” is the theme of Sunday Fun Day, planned for noon-3 p.m. Sunday at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg.

Visitors can learn about industrial artifacts and watch an aluminum hot metal pour done by Rivers of Steel, a Pittsburgh-based organization that interprets the area’s industrial and cultural heritage. They also will have the opportunity to paint over a photograph, mimicking the techniques of early 20th-century Pittsburgh artist John Kane, whose work can be viewed in the current exhibition, “Gatecrashers: The Rise of the Self-Taught Artist in America.”
