Miss Freddye, Pittsburgh’s “Lady of the Blues,” will be among musical guests at Vandergrift Artfest 2021: Art, Heart and Soul.

Musical interlude

Westmoreland Winds will perform at 7 p.m. today at the amphitheater in Hempfield Park, as part of Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s Live on the Lawn outdoor summer concert series.

The ensemble is comprised of musicians Tom Godfrey, flute; Renate Sakins, oboe; Ryan Leonard, clarinet; Austin Sposato, horn; and Steve Ehrin, bassoon.

Attendees should bring their own seating. The nearby concession stand will be open, and restrooms are available.

A $10 donation is suggested, payable on the symphony website or at the park.

Attendance is limited to 250; registration is required at westmorelandsymphony.org.

Onward and upward

“Onward,” an animated movie about two elf brothers on a magical quest to spend one more day with their late father, will show at dusk Friday at the amphitheater in St. Clair Park in downtown Greensburg. The 2020 movie is rated PG.

Some bench seating is available, but chairs or blankets are needed for lawn seating.

Pit Take BBQ and Kona Ice trucks will be on site.

A $5 donation per person is requested, but not required. Sponsor is City of Greensburg Recreation Department.

Round up your ride

The third annual Round Up Car Show will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at West Point Auto Works, 110 West Point Drive, Hempfield.

The first 30 entrants receive a dash plaque. Best in Show and other awards will be given.

Food vendors will include Miss Meatball, Speals on Wheels, Marino’s American Eatery and Kona Ice. All Saints Brewing and Yellow Bridge Brewing will have craft beers available.

Admission is free; donations will be accepted to benefit CASA of Westmoreland Inc. and Westmoreland Community Action.

Crash course

Feed your appetite for destruction at Demo Derby starting at 7 p.m. Saturday at Westmoreland Fairgrounds in Mt. Pleasant Township.

Competition classes will include Full-size, Compact, Tractor, Youth Tractor (ages 10-15), Two-Man Limited Stock Compact Team and Power Wheels. Youth participants must have a signed waiver.

Gates open at 6 p.m. General admission is $8, or $4 for ages 3-12. Pit passes for all ages are $20.

Arts on the avenues

Vandergrift Artfest 2021: Art, Heart and Soul is planned for noon-8 p.m. Sunday, rain or shine, at Grant and Columbia avenues in Vandergrift.

The free event will feature more than 75 artists and vendors, food trucks, wine tasting and a Kiddie Lane with free children’s activities.

Musical acts will be featured on the hour on the main stage, with performers including Aubrey Burchell, Miss Freddye, Lenny Collini 4Pak and 56East. The Acoustic Lounge in the Decorator’s Workshop will host acoustic artists, including Brachtopus.

Dance troupes will perform throughout the afternoon at Farragut and 11th avenues.

Fine art will be displayed in the historic JCPenney building. More than 20 large wooden palettes painted by local artists have been placed around town as part of the festival.

Proceeds benefit the Vandergrift Improvement Program.
