‘Whiskey must be had’
A limited quantity of the new “A Mad Sort of Fool” rye whiskey will be on sale Saturday and Sunday while supplies last at Fort Ligonier. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days.
This year’s whiskey was inspired by the fort’s notoriously difficult quartermaster, John St. Clair, referred to by Gen. John Forbes as “A Mad Sort of Fool.” In 1758, St. Clair was quoted as saying, “This is a most diabolical work, and whiskey must be had,” when soldiers refused to continue building the Forbes Road without their whiskey ration.
The new blend was produced expressly for Fort Ligonier by Pittsburgh-based Wigle Whiskey. It will sell for $50 per 375-milliliter bottle or two for $90, plus tax.
For information, call 724-238-9701 or visit fortligonier.org.
