Getting a message to you

The music of the Bee Gees is stayin’ alive with a tribute group called The New York Bee Gees, playing at 8 p.m. Friday in The Palace Theatre in Greensburg.

The New York-based band includes musicians who have played with renowned acts including The Alan Parsons Project, Happy Together Tour, Meatloaf, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Herman’s Hermits and Enrique Iglesias.

The band delivers songs from every decade of the Bee Gees catalog, from early hits like “To Love Somebody” and “I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You” to 1970s disco classics like “More Than a Woman” and “Night Fever.”

Waltzes and more

Pitt-Greensburg Chorale and Chamber Singers will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Mary Lou Campana Chapel and Lecture Center at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, 150 Finoli Drive, Hempfield.

The performance also will be livestreamed.

“We’ll be exploring the Liebeslieder Waltzes by Johannes Brahms,” said Chris Bartley, music program director. “Another highlight will be the performance of Gwyneth Walker’s ‘Sing Evermore.’”

Students participating in the campus voice and piano program also will perform.

Admission is free. Masks are required to be worn inside the venue.

Deck the halls

Ligonier Valley Historical Society’s 38th annual Festival of Lights opens to the public on Saturday and runs through Dec. 7 in the Ligonier Town Hall community room. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The festival features trees, wreaths and other decorative items created by area businesses, organizations, school groups and individuals. Items are available for purchase, to be taken home when the festival closes.

Admission is $5, or $1 for ages 5-12. Visitors are treated to a holiday beverage and snack.

Down on the farm

Meet cows, pigs, goats, sheep, ducks, chickens and a mini-mule at home on the farm during Holiday Sanctuary Tours on Saturday at the Animal Friends Sanctuary, 215 Smiths Hill Road, Unity. Half-hour tours will begin at 11 and 11:30 a.m., noon and 12:30 p.m., regardless of the weather.

Attendees should wear outdoor clothing for the barnyard-area tours. Waterproof footwear is recommended. Tours are not handicapped accessible.

Attendees will be asked to sign a liability release upon arrival. Those younger than 18 will need a waiver signed on their behalf.

Youngwood-based Animal Friends of Westmoreland, which operates the sanctuary, will have merchandise for sale, with payment by check or cash.

Reservations are required at eventbrite.com. Fee is $10 plus fees. Additional tours are scheduled for Dec. 15.

Playing around

Charleroi-based wooden toy-maker Dean Helfer Jr. will discuss his craft at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Westmoreland History Education Center at Historic Hanna’s Town, 809 Forbes Trail Road, Hempfield.

Helfer is owner of Channel Craft, which produces tailor-made toys, games and puzzles for specialty stores, museums, parks and attractions. The all-ages program will include toy demonstrations and giveaways.

Fee is $8, or $6 for seniors and students through grade 12. Attendees also receive admission to the exhibit, “Penn’s Woods: Plenty for the Use of Man,” which focuses on woodworking crafts. The center’s gift shop will be open.
