Sounds of summer

Jazz by Shaun Martin & Band is on tap at 7 p.m. Friday, for the season’s second SummerSounds concert in Greensburg’s St. Clair Park.

Keyboard player Martin is a member of Snarky Puppy, a Grammy-winning jazz fusion ensemble that has previously played SummerSounds. He is also music director for gospel music star Kirk Franklin.

The Aubrey Burchell Duo will provide pre-show music from 6:15-6:45 p.m.

While admission is free, donations are taken to support the weekly concert series that continues, weather permitting, through Oct. 1.

Cruisin’ for conservation

The third annual Car Cruise for Conservation will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Westmoreland Conservation District headquarters, 218 Donohoe Road, Hempfield.

The event will feature classic cars, motorcycles, vendors, food and more. Awards will include Most Unique, Most Original, Longest Distance Traveled, Oldest Car and the Jerry Trainer Award. Proceeds benefit Sewickley Creek Watershed Association. Registration is $5 per vehicle. Rain date is Aug. 21.

Music in Murrysville

A four-band lineup is set for the free Murrysville Concert in the Park, beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday in Murrysville Community Park. The schedule includes:

• 4:15 p.m., The Adorabulls, playing everything from oldies to hip-hop to alt rock on weird instruments

• 5:15 p.m., Hoffman Road Band, folk music

• 6:30 p.m., Sweaty Already String Band, traditional and modern bluegrass, unexpected covers and original tunes

• 8 p.m., The Neids Hotel Band, voted “Pittsburgh’s best bar band” in a 2016 poll.

Multiple food trucks and beverage vendors will be on site. Attendees should bring their own seating; coolers are not allowed.

Artist reception

An opening reception for “Here and Beyond,” an exhibition of works by photographer Alexis Dillon and sculptor John “Jack” Mayer, is set for 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley.

Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with the artists.

Dillon, a former high school art and photography teacher, specializes in infrared imagery. Mayer creates outsized flora, fauna and other pieces on metal armature covered with masonry.

The exhibit runs Friday through Oct. 30.

Fee to attend the reception is $5. Reservations can be made by calling 724-238-6015, emailing ligonier @sama-art.org or visiting sama-art.org.

Smash hit

The Stephen Philip Harvey Jazz Orchestra’s “Smash!” summer tour makes a stop at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Seton Hill University Performing Arts Center in downtown Greensburg.

Composer/director/musician Harvey is a Seton Hill alumnus.

Tickets are $15 in advance at stephenpharvey.com, or $20 at the door.

Seton Hill alumni are invited to a free reception following the concert. Alumni can register for the reception when purchasing tickets online.
