5 Star Trail Poker Run goes do-it-yourself this summer
The 21st annual Five Star Trail Poker Run is adopting a “do-it-yourself” format this year.
Participants can choose to bicycle, walk or jog the trail stretching from Greensburg to Youngwood during sessions on July 18, Aug. 15 or Sept. 19 — or on more than one date.
There will be no cards or scoring this year, and participants can start and finish wherever it is convenient. Participants will have a chance to win a door prize for each poker run they do. Door prizes will be drawn the week after each event, with winners to be notified by phone or mail.
The first $20 registration includes an athletic performance T-shirt; registration for each additional date is $5. Paprticipants can preregister by mailing in the form available to download from the Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation website.
Business sponsorships also are available at various levels.
Registration can be done in person from 8:30-11:30 a.m. the day of each event at the T-shirt booth, located at the Huff Avenue Access Area in South Greensburg. All proceeds benefit the maintenance and upkeep of the Five Star and Westmoreland Heritage Trails.
Participants can choose for their entry fees to benefit either the Five Star Trail Chapter or the Westmoreland Heritage Trail Chapter.
While on the run, participants are encouraged to take a selfie or other photo and email to ljones@co.westmoreland.pa.us to be posted on the parks website as part of the 2020 poker run album. Submitting a photo provides an additional chance to win door prizes.
