Greensburg Fire Department Company No. 1 firefighters compete againt the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department in the Battle of the Barrel during the 25th Greensburg Community Days in 2019.

After being canceled the past two years during the covid-19 pandemic, Greensburg Community Days is set to return this month.

The three-day event many deem an official start to summer will be held May 26 through 28 at Lynch Field Park.

“This is the first year we are hosting the festival since the pandemic, and we are all very excited it is back,” said Lydia Kinkaid, Greensburg’s recreation program manager. “As always, we are hoping that everyone in our community stops by the festival at some point.”

The event will feature food and craft vendors, music, entertainment and the annual Battle of the Barrel event, Mayor Robert Bell said.

It will kick off at 6 p.m. May 26 with the country-pop band Willow Hill. It will be followed at 8 p.m. by the band Shiva Skydriver. During those performances, the Greensburg Fire Department will host Battle of the Barrel, which pits Westmoreland County fire departments against one another.

Pixelated, which plays 1990s and 2000s rock, alternative and pop music, will start the festivities at 6 p.m. May 27. Jeff Jimmerson & Airborne will perform at 8 p.m. Jimmerson is well known in the region for performing the national anthem at Pittsburgh Penguins games, in addition to fronting Airborne.

During the event, patrons will be able to attend the ER Cruiser Car Cruise from 6 to 8 p.m.

Festivities on the final day, May 28, will start at 2 p.m. with a performance from Full Tylt, a classic R&B and funk band from Duquesne. They will be followed by The Cash Out Show, a Johnny Cash tribute band. The Andy Davis Band will perform at 8 p.m. Demonstrations by the fire department will be held from 2 to 6 p.m.

The 26th event will conclude with a fireworks show starting at 9:30 p.m from Pyrotechnico.
