Firefighters freed the driver of this car after it crashed into a utility pole and overturned, bringing down lines, early on Aug. 25, 2019, at Depot and Grandview streets in Youngwood.

Two motorists were taken by ambulance to a hospital after crashes Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning in Youngwood, according to rescuers.

A female driver suffered apparent minor injuries when two sport utility vehicles collided head-on at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday on Silvis Farm Road, said Youngwood Fire Chief Lloyd Crago.

She had to be freed from one of the vehicles that ended up teetering on the side of an embankment, Crago said.

“It was on the bank and ready to slip over,” he said. “We had to stabilize it to get her out.”

No other injuries were reported in that wreck.

A male driver escaped with apparent minor injuries when his car ran into a utility pole and overturned just after 1 a.m. Sunday at Depot and Grandview streets, Crago said.

“Live power lines came down on the car, and he was pinned inside for a while,” he said. “We had to pop one of the doors.”

The crash interrupted electric service to some nearby homes and closed traffic on Depot Street for more than two hours as firefighters mopped up fuel that leaked from the car, Crago said.

Further details weren’t available from state police, who investigated both wrecks.
