Police: 2 women broke into cars in Greensburg, 1 damaged holding cell

Greensburg police say a Unity woman repeatedly threatened police and damaged a holding cell last week when she was detained with another woman for allegedly breaking into cars.

Madison P. Kuncher, 21, was arraigned Monday on multiple criminal charges, including institutional vandalism, forgery, access device fraud, theft, receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling in connection with the May 1 incident. District Judge Chris Flanigan ordered Kuncher held in the county jail on $60,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for May 16.

Patrolman Hank Fontana said police were dispatched at 2:43 a.m. May 1 for a report that two people were breaking into cars in a parking lot on West Second Street at Vannear Avenue. Two women — Kuncher and Amanda Hoeft, 23, of Greensburg — were rummaging through a car’s trunk and attempted to flee in different directions when the patrol car approached, Fontana reported.

Court documents said both women were apprehended but denied any wrongdoing. Fontana reported that Hoeft claimed she was looking through the trunk of a relative’s car.

“The information was found to be false,” Fontana said.

Police found the women were in possession of $75 worth of merchandise they bought at a nearby Sunoco with a credit card believed stolen from a parked car.

“Kuncher was uncooperative during the entire incident … refusing to obey verbal commands, threatening officers, yelling and screaming, and using water from a holding cell to throw on the walls and a space heater,” Fontana wrote.

Hoeft also is charged with forgery, access device fraud, theft, receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling in connection with the incident.
