Two tractor-trailers went over an embankment Tuesday morning on the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Somerset and Donegal exits.

Two westbound tractor-trailers crashed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Somerset and Donegal exits Tuesday morning, with the vehicles rolling over a snow-covered embankment.

The crash happened about 9:15 a.m. near milepost 95, state police said. The turnpike passes over Route 130 in the area.

Police said one of the two drivers lost control of his tractor-trailer while rounding a curve and the vehicle struck a guardrail and rolled onto its side. The second truck then struck the first and both vehicles then went through a guardrail and down a steep embankment, police said.

Cases of Yoo-hoo and sports drinks from one of the tractor-trailers were strewn around the crash site, state police Cpl. Joe May said.

Emergency responders worked to free the driver of the first tractor-trailer from his vehicle, while the other driver managed to free himself, police said. Both drivers were taken to hospitals for treatment. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening, May said.

The crash didn’t result in any lane closures along the turnpike, though the shoulder of the highway was closed as emergency crews responded to the crash, May said.

May said removal of the vehicles is being postponed until Wednesday because of the inclement weather conditions.
