Emergency closure ordered for Washington Avenue Bridge in Swissvale
The emergency closure of a bridge in Swissvale on Thursday night has forced the rerouting of bus lines, Pittsburgh Regional Transit said.
The Washington Avenue Bridge that was closed is owned by PennDOT and Norfolk Southern Corp., said Amie Downs, an Allegheny County spokeswoman.
Washington Avenue connects Monongahela Avenue with Noble Street.
Details on the closure were not available late Thursday night. Swissvale police could not be reached for comment.
The closure forced Pittsburgh Regional Transit to reroute bus routes 59, P7, and P71, until further notice, the transit authority said. The closure will not effect the East Busway, which runs under the bridge.
