Verona woman struck and killed by a train in Homestead
A Verona woman was struck and killed by a train in Homestead Tuesday afternoon, according to Allegheny County Police.
The victim was identified as Angela M. Martin, according to the county Medical Examiner’s office.
Witnesses told police that Martin, 65, was attempting to cross the road near the corner of Amity Street and East Sixth Avenue when the westbound Norfolk Southern train hit her.
The crash happened just after 1:30 p.m. First responders found Martin dead at the scene.
The street was under construction, according to police.
Three sets of train tracks cross Amity Street near the intersection.
The train was 26 cars long with two locomotives, according to Norfolk Southern. The company will review footage from the train’s cameras to learn more about the crash.
County detectives are investigating the crash.
