Leechburg police say that when Carlin Mitchell Quinn allegedly dug through two building walls to rob a bank, he made off with — change.
No bills, about $1,400 in coins.
“That’s my understanding,” Patrolman Mark Pollick said.
Quinn, 27 of West Leechburg, is charged with robbing the Leechburg First Commonwealth Bank branch the early morning hours of Jan. 8, 2018.
Police say Quinn entered a vacant apartment next door to the bank and tunneled through two walls to get into the bank next door.
On Wednesday, Quinn waived charges to Armstrong County Court.
Neither Quinn nor his public defender commented at the hearing.
“He didn’t talk with me when I charged him, and he hasn’t spoken since,” Pollick said of Quinn.
According to Quinn’s arrest papers, the hole dug into in the bank’s wall led into the bank manager’s office.
To get there, police say Quinn broke into a vacant apartment next to the bank through a back door, crossed through a small courtyard and then broken a hole in the bank’s wall. The only money the robber got was taken from coin vaults behind several bank tellers’ counters, according to arrest papers.
Pollick said he found gloves and an insulated foam cup inside the bank that didn’t belong there.
State police sent them to an FBI lab. Police say that testing found DNA found on the three items matched Quinn’s DNA.
