A boil water advisory that had been in effect for some residents in the Fox Chapel area is lifted.

As of 9:30 a.m. Friday, the alert for the affected areas served by Fox Chapel Authority was no longer in place, officials announced.

Customers can resume normal water use without taking additional measures.

Anyone who has cloudy or discolored tap water should run the faucet for a few minutes until the water runs clear.

Authority Manager Justin Jump said a 12-inch water main broke Tuesday at 610 Alpha Drive in RIDC Park, O’Hara.

The line, built in 1959, was repaired later the same day but the Department of Environmental Protection requires flushing and testing before approval can be given to customers to use the water.

Test results came back Friday with an all-clear for drinking, bathing and other uses.

The Authority, also based in RIDC Park, serves about 5,500 customers in a 15-square-mile area. It includes all or parts of Fox Chapel, Harmar, Indiana Township and O’Hara but only some areas were affected.

Most were in the area of Powers Run Road and the neighborhoods between Hemlock Hollow and Riding Meadow roads.
