A widespread cell phone outage for Verizon customers in parts of the Alle-Kiski Valley is now expected to take three times as long to resolve.

According to the company’s website, Verizon is aware of the issue and crews are working on a solution.

On Saturday, the expected wait time was up to 15 hours. As of Sunday morning, the company said it could be 40 hours for a fix.

The network was disrupted late Friday, causing limits on data, voice, text and wireless home internet.

People on social media started noticing the dropped calls Friday evening. Many people posted on Facebook saying they were experiencing trouble with their cell service in Tarentum, Harrison, West Deer, Cheswick, Lower Burrell and Brackenridge.

“I had no service at all at the Mills,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Same here in Tarentum,” another post said.

People complained that the problem was also affecting AT&T wireless but, as of 6 p.m. Saturday, the company said there are no outages in the area.

Harrison police posted at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday to say they are aware of the problem.
